I’ve recently noticed a type of lifestyle that focuses on our own desires, our dreams, our wants, our “truths” obligating us to do whatever it takes to find our “happiness” by following our heart.  At a quick glance living our truth, living unapologetically, following our heart can seem empowering, and even liberating but at the core of it, it’s a deceitful! Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” You see, the enemy will use this self-centered perspective and trickery in order to keep us away from the truth which is, we were created to live for Christ, in his will, his way.

The key to life is living surrendered to God.

When we surrender our life to Christ, we make him the center of our lives. We intentionally live for Him, focusing on living with purpose within God’s perfect will and not our own foolish ways and desires. Isaiah 55:8-9 says it best; “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, “declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts”. Isn’t it great that whatever our dreams and greatest desires are, upon surrendering these to the Lord His desires for us are so much better than our own?

Today you may be struggling carrying your cross in your own strength. Maybe you’ve been working hard at creating your own happiness without success and in your failure have turned to addiction or have chosen to stay in that toxic relationship because you’ve convinced yourself that this is what you deserve. Maybe you’ve been working hard at living in your “truth” by giving into porn, lust, homosexuality, things that offer momentary satisfaction and at the end your left hurt, carrying guilt and even more shame.  Maybe you’ve been continuously seeking happiness without success and are desperate for peace and fulfillment.

Today, I’m here to tell you that without Christ there is no such thing.

Releasing that toxic friendship, letting go of that relationship that constantly hurts and demeans you may seem like a drastic move but it must be done. Following through with what must come to an end will need take courage. However, be reminded today that 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline”. God is aware that our sinful nature will bring us to encounter strongholds that will prove tough to be released from but that is why he has equipped us with his Holy Spirit to be our counsellor, our friend, our guide and will be our help to overcome!
